Other: With rich history dating all the way back to 1466, Gallet instruments have long been the primary choice for many of the world's most important timekeeping applications. The brand has truly paved the way for the chronograph wristwatch as we know it today with many innovations including (but not limited to): the world's first true wrist-worn chronograph, the first chronograph wristwatch with a waterproof case, the first chronograph wristwatch with multiple time zones, the first chronograph wristwatch with yachting regatta countdown, and the first chronograph wristwatch with 24-hour dial. If you're a fan of chronograph watches, it's hard not to love and appreciate all that Gallet has contributed to watchmaking. You can read more about their company history and famous timepieces over at GalletWorld.com.
According to Gallet World, the MultiChron 30M was the world's first true wrist-worn chronograph. It also holds the distinction of being the world's first wrist-worn chronograph to be housed in a "waterproof" case like the one we are offering for sale here. This patented two-piece clamshell case was designed specifically to protect the high-grade Venus 150 watch movement from the adverse conditions encountered on the battlefield. The two separate pieces of the stainless steel case are compressed together with four special screws (one under each lug). This design was way ahead of its time and pre-dated the traditional screw-back cases that we see on the vast majority of waterproof watches today. "Due to the Clamshell's historic status and superb quality, it has become one of the most coveted timepieces among today's vintage watch and chronograph collectors."
This particular Gallet MultiChron 30M professional-use chronograph features an absolutely gorgeous sector dial with black Arabic numerals and vibrant red scales. Speaking of the dial, we love the reflective silver mirror track that separates the black minute track from the outer red telemeter track. The absence of radioactive lume on this rare model variation has allowed for much better overall preservation of the original dial and blued-steel hands. Even so, it is exceedingly difficult to find one of these in nice original condition. This watch spent some time in Justin's personal collection, and we are confident that the next buyer will love and enjoy it just as much as he did.
